Walking around St. Augustine

Walking around my neighborhood today...looking at bits of St. Augustine that are off the beaten tourista path. I mostly aim to get pictures of the mundane. I'm looking for things that we don't bother to look at anymore. Mixed in with that today, there are also glimpses of people making their lives nicer. We could use more of that community niceness.

This is a wall at the edge of a vacant lot:

Fortunately, you can't smell this corner...the urine was ripe there last night:

Geez, that looks like the ghetto or at least Spitzel's hunting grounds. That alley looks like its seen more mugs than a coffee house. Eek!

It's funny. St. Augustine is one of those towns that people talk about, "Oh, I love St. Augustine. It's such a neat city." But you don't have to get too far off the beaten path to see that the tourism dollars don't pay out to everyone. We have a lot of poverty mixed in. My neighborhood is a weird mix of expensive homes and rentals. Drug dealers and well to do republicans on the same block.

But see that what makes it a really awesome place to live where there is a mix of everything. keeps things interesting. I've been to St. Augustine a bunch of times for school trips and I never even knew a ghetto place even existed there. They make it seem like its all old-world and haunted.
